Ten young people from our Associate Schools spent the week learning about directing and being a leader in the arts.

Ten students from Intermission Youth Theatre and Silhouette Youth took part in our first ever Next Generation: Direct programme, earlier this month.

Aged between 16-24, the talented young people were selected from our Associate Schools and spent the week working with directors and other industry professionals to explore directing and being a leader in the arts.

Sessions included looking at how to stage a scene with Tartuffe Director Iqbal Khan, exploring the design process for Venice Preserved with Director Prasanna Puwanarajah and Designer James Cotterill, and sitting in on a rehearsal for the upcoming First Encounters production of The Merchant of Venice. At the end of the week, they worked with professional actors on scenes that were then performed at The Other Place.

Janet, Next Generation: Direct participant

“This experience has enabled me to see directing in a new light, because you get to work with professionals who live, breathe, and are fully immersed in their craft.”
