Five UK artists and photographers have given their own unique spin to some of Shakespeare's most famous scenes.
We have been working with Adobe and five UK artists to give Shakespeare a modern-day makeover.
The artists worked with our Director of Education Jacqui O’Hanlon and director Alex Thorpe to ensure the scenes stayed true to their original meanings, creating new interpretations that can help bring Shakespeare to life for young people studying his plays.
The five artists involved are:
- Fantasy photographer Rosie Hardy, reimagining Titania from A Midsummer Night’s Dream
- Comic book artist Amrit Birdi, recreating A Midsummer Night’s Dream as a superhero fantasy in an urban dystopia
- Conceptual artist Darryll Jones, focusing on the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet
- Digital artist Jack Teagle, depicting the three witches from Macbeth
- Illustrator Octavia Bromell, better known as Tink, transferring Romeo and Juliet’s first meeting to a hipster cafe
Jacqui said about the project, “We’re thrilled to be working together to inspire young creators to explore Shakespeare’s work in new ways, using digital tools to explore the thing that RSC actors and directors work on every day: how to bring Shakespeare’s best-loved texts to life for contemporary audiences of all ages.”
