Next Generation ACT helps talented students hone their skills through support, tuition, training and mentoring from leading actors and theatre practitioners.
Last month saw the first meeting of RSC Next Generation ACT, a young company of talented students aged 12-16, chosen by an RSC panel working with our Associate Schools and Regional Theatre partners across the country.
As well as demonstrating exceptional talent, we looked for young people who might ordinarily find it hard to break into a career in the theatre. The students are invited to be part of RSC Next Generation ACT until they reach age 18. They will hone their skills through a programme of ongoing support, tuition, training and mentoring led by leading actors and theatre practitioners.
The young people joined us for their first training weekend in Stratford-upon-Avon for a weekend spent exploring voice, text and movement. Here are some of the reactions to this exciting first weekend. Follow the young people and their story with us on twitter with #RSCNextGen
“Best 3 days ever! We arrived on Thursday not knowing a single other person but by Friday morning I could name all 19 of the others and we were all like old friends. We began on Friday with workshops and even had a chance to be shown around the RST. We met amazing people and were able to have a Q&A with such people as Ray Fearon and Noma Dumezweni. We also got to watch an amazing performance of Dido, Queen of Carthage; It was so good. On the Saturday we had a final workshop and showed the parents everything we had done over the 3 days. I honestly can’t wait until February. I’m counting down the days.”
