RSC one of 130 cultural venues to benefit from DCMS £127.8 million Arts Everywhere Fund

We are delighted to receive this government funding to support a crucial transformational upgrade to creative facilities in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

Along with 130 cultural venues, museums and libraries across England, the RSC will receive a welcome funding boost to resolve urgent issues with their estates.

The RSC will receive a £7,298,800 grant from the Creative Foundations Fund (CFF) to support a transformational upgrade to creative facilities in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, including a new automation system and investment in building infrastructure that will ensure the venue can continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.

Andrew Leveson (RSC Executive Director), Daniel Evans and Tamara Harvey (RSC Co-Artistic Directors) said:

"We welcome today’s funding announcement and are grateful to Arts Council England and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport for recognising the urgent capital needs of our arts and cultural sector, for whom rising costs and failing infrastructure continue to represent a very real threat.

"The Creative Foundations Fund (CFF) grant will help to support a transformational upgrade to creative facilities in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, including a new automation system and investment in critical building infrastructure. This much-needed upgrade will help to safeguard jobs, improve sustainability and facilitate technical innovation, ensuring that the RSC is equipped to deliver cutting-edge, large-scale work for generations to come."

The government funding package will help us make crucial upgrades to our largest auditorium, The Royal Shakespeare Theatre, so that we can continue to offer the boldest theatrical experiences for generations to come. Pictured: Hamlet Hail to the Thief, 2025

ABOUT THE FUNDS

The £127.8 million government fund is part of the Department for Culture, Media and SportsArts Everywhere Fund, a bumper £1.5 billion package to support cultural infrastructure projects that will improve access to arts and culture across the country.

The RSC is one of seven cultural organisations in the West Midlands - including the Birmingham Royal Ballet and Wolverhampton Arts Centre - to receive grants, as well as another six museums and libraries across the county.

As the cost of living continues to affect families across Britain, funding for these venues will help provide welcoming, affordable spaces for communities to visit, come together and celebrate what makes their local area special.

The Arts Everywhere Fund is split into three funds: The Creative Foundation Fund for arts and cultural venues including theatres, performing arts venues, galleries and grassroots music venues; The Museum Estate and Development Fund; and The Libraries Improvement Fund.

Creative Foundation Fund grants are administered via Arts Council England on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sports.
