Our first venture into video games, LILI has been selected to be showcased at this year’s Venice Film Festival, taking place from 27 August – 6 September.
The game - which has been developed by iNK Stories, Alambic Production and the RSC - is featured as part of this year’s Venice Immersive competition, which is devoted to immersive media including video, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Extended Reality (XR) and other forms, including installations and virtual worlds.
LILI is featured in the Best of Experiences - Out Of Competition category.
This comes shortly after LILI became the first ever video game to be showcased at Festival de Cannes, also as a part of their Immersive Competition, where attendees of the festival could play a demo of the game.
A bold reimagining of Macbeth set in present-day Iran, LILI centers on Lady Macbeth in a screen life thriller, fusing film, theatre, and game design. Blending classic storytelling with AI and interactivity, LILI breaks cinematic convention, inviting audiences to step inside the narrative, make choices, and face consequences in a layered experience that challenges them to question power, control and complicity.
The full game is now in development and slated to enter production in late 2025, and the final release will be available to play across gaming platforms.
LILI is generously supported by Miranda Curtis CMG. Research and Innovation at the RSC is supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
