Significant challenges but opportunities for innovation: read our response to the Government's Spending Review, published on 11 June 2025.
The 15% cut over five years for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport announced in the Government's Spending Review will pose significant challenges to how the sector delivers for audiences and young people’s learning.
However, we look forward to seeing innovative ways to attract investment in the forthcoming Industrial Strategy and Creative Industries Sector Plan.
INVESTMENT IS KEY
Key to this will be enabling the cultural sector to invest more in innovation research and development, as well as ensuring the provision of critical enabling infrastructure including transport, skills and a safe and effective nighttime economy, so that the performing arts can thrive and deliver growth.
The investment in skills and apprenticeships announced will create new pathways into our world-leading sector, and we strongly welcome plans to channel Dormant Assets into cultural access for young people.
Further capital investment for cultural institutions is both urgent and welcome, and we look forward to working with Government to ensure our cultural buildings are maximised as assets for the power of theatre.
