This summer, we partnered with TikTok for their Summer Skills Series, a new initiative designed to inspire creativity and unlock new passions among young people across the UK.
The campaign celebrated learning in all its forms, with themed weeks spotlighting everything from music and fashion to literature and film. As part of Literature Week, we took centre stage to help bring Shakespeare and theatre to life for a new generation of young people through creative workshops.
On Wednesday 13 August, we hosted workshops for young people at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London, home to the multi-award-winning production of My Neighbour Totoro.
Participants got the chance to explore Shakespeare through performance techniques and puppetry, drawing on some of the creative practices that have helped shape our productions.
Led by Assistant Learning Practitioner Roberta Zuric, the first session focused on unlocking the language of Shakespeare and helping the young people who attended to find their own voice and connection to the work.
Participants also got a behind-the-scenes look at the puppetry techniques in My Neighbour Totoro in the second session, lead by Associate Director Iskandar Sharazuddin, offering hands-on experience and a new perspective on storytelling through movement and design.
Our involvement in Literature Week was the latest in our partnership with TikTok, who are the sponsors of our £10 ticket scheme. This vital initiative allows young people aged 14 to 25 to access brilliant seats at all RSC productions for just £10. Since launching the scheme in 2022, we have sold close to 100,000 £10 tickets to young people.
Through this partnership, we are working to remove financial and social barriers to theatre attendance and to help more young people experience the magic of live performance.
