RSC stars on the small screen

Whether you're streaming online or watching on Freeview, you may have seen plenty of RSC actors on television so far this year.

We're always thrilled to see actors who have performed with us appearing in television shows and films. Take a look through the gallery below to find out what just a few of our alumni have been up to so far this year.

Not only is Mark Quartley currently gracing the Royal Shakespeare Theatre stage as Henry VI in both Henry VI: Rebellion and Wars of the Roses, but he also featured in ITV's recent spy series The Ipcress File. You might also recognise Paul Higgins (Measure for Measure) and Richard Hope (Queen Anne) in the show.

The fourth season of Top Boy is now streaming on Netflix, and features a number of RSC alumni. Look out for Howard Charles (The Merchant of Venice, Macbeth), Theo Ogundipe (Troilus and Cressida, Julius Caesar) and Darrell D'Silva (A Midsummer Night's Dream, Julius Caesar) as you watch this season.

Adjoa Andoh returns this year as Lady Danbury in the second season of the Netflix show Bridgerton. Other RSC alumni in the show are Kathryn Drysdale (A Midsummer Night's Dream, Love's Labour's Lost), who plays Genevieve Delacroix, and Golda Rosheuvel (The Tempest, Antony and Cleopatra), who plays Queen Charlotte.

Arthur Hughes is currently performing as Gloucester in Henry VI: Rebellion and Wars of the Roses, before putting on the crown for Richard III this summer. You may also have seen him recently in the BBC drama Then Barbara Met Alan, about the founders of the disability rights group DAN (the Disabled People's Direct Action Network).

Starting soon on ITV is the miniseries The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe, featuring Monica Dolan as Anne Darwin. Monica was with the RSC for a number of shows, including King Lear with Ian McKellen and as Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Other RSC faces you might recognise in the show include Joe Dixon (The Tempest, A Midsummer Night's Dream) and Beruce Khan (Twelfth Night, A Christmas Carol).

The BBC's adaptation of Adam Kay's This Is Going to Hurt features a range of RSC names, including Bally Gill (Romeo and Juliet, Coriolanus), Alex Jennings (Hamlet, Measure for Measure), Charlotte Arrowsmith (As You Like It, The Taming of the Shrew), Harriet Walter (Antony and Cleopatra, Death of a Salesman) and James Corrigan (Othello, Coriolanus).

It's been a busy time for both Patrick Stewart and Gemma Jones so far this year. Patrick reprises his role in Star Trek: Picard on Prime Video, while Gemma is now back on our screens as Aunt Anne Lister in Gentleman Jack. The pair performed together at the RSC in the 1980s in Ronald Eyre's production of The Winter's Tale and Trevor Nunn's Henry IV, Parts 1 and 2.

Meera Syal is one of the many recognisable faces in the BBC series The Split, which returned for a third season this year. She shares the screen with Chukwudi Iwuji, who was part of Michael Boyd's Histories Cycle and took centre stage as Henry VI.

Nina Sosanya starred in the Channel 4 series Screw this year, playing a prison officer in an all-male prison. Other RSC faces in the show include Nicholas Lumley (Don Quixote, Doctor Faustus) and Sagar Arya (Timon of Athens, Tamburlaine).
