More than £30,000 was raised to help those affected by the war in Ukraine at a special event in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre this month.

The evening of music and readings was a Stratford Music Festival event with musicians from the Orchestra of the Swan, which we hosted in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre on 8 May.

There were readings from actors Jim Broadbent, Mogali Masuku and Samuel West, from Shakespeare and contemporary writers. Music included the State Anthem of Ukraine (Shche Ne Vmerla Ukrayina), Barber's Adagio for Strings and Mozart's Clarinet Concerto with the orchestra's Principal Conductor Michael Collins playing clarinet.

This one-off event aimed to show solidarity and support for those affected by the war in Ukraine. Several Ukranian families, newly arrived in the area, were also in the audience for the evening.

With help from an anonymous donation, more than £30,000 was raised by the event and will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee's Ukraine humanitarian relief effort.
