Find out about our exciting suite of courses for teachers

The RSC Certificate in Teaching Shakespeare is a transformative suite of courses which have been designed to develop teachers’ skills and confidence in using RSC rehearsal-room approaches in the classroom.

Whether you teach in a primary, secondary or special school; and regardless of how long you have been teaching, our courses will equip you with the skills required to confidently teach Shakespeare and progress your knowledge and understanding.

There are three levels of the course, building towards the final Certification level. Teachers can choose to stop at any level as each of them are self-contained learning units.

Each level includes a ticket to see a Shakespeare play in the RSC's repertoire, lunch and refreshments on all three days, a resource pack of activities to use in the classroom, the chance to network and build relationships with fellow teachers and opportunities to work with and receive support from experienced RSC practitioners.

  • Foundation Course: if you’re new to teaching, or new to using RSC rehearsal room approaches to teach Shakespeare, then this course is for you.
  • Intermediate Course: designed for teachers with recent experience (within the last five years) of at least three days training in RSC approaches, either through the Foundation Course or other experience of working with the RSC.
  • Certification Course: eligibility for the Certification Course typically follows successful completion of the Intermediate Course, although in exceptional cases direct entry may be possible. For more information about eligibility, please check the Intermediate and Certification level pages, or email
