Foundation/Intermediate level
If you are completing the Foundation or Intermediate level of the course, you will be asked to complete a short task while back in school after the first two days of the course and reflect on this in small groups on the final day. However, it is not necessary for you to submit a piece of written work for these levels.
Entry directly on to Intermediate or Certificate level
As mentioned above, if you are hoping to be accepted directly on to a higher level of the programme, you will be asked to write a short reflection prior to the course start. This piece of reflective writing should consider your previous experience of using RSC or other rehearsal-room approaches in the classroom. The purpose is to help you think about your practice and possibly capture any questions you might have, or areas you are hoping to explore further or deepen. The expectation is that this will be around 800 words, but if you would rather write in bullet points and mind maps then we’re happy to accept writing with fewer words. If you would find it helpful, the Education Team can provide some questions that you might like to consider.
Certification Action Research project
The final stage in the programme, the Certificate level, will involve identifying a research question to explore with a chosen group of students. The overall purpose of the action research is for us to learn, individually and collectively, about how rehearsal room pedagogies might bring about change at pupil, school and/or community level.
For example, “How can RSC rehearsal-room approaches improve the writing skills of my Year 4 class?” or “To what extent can these approaches build confidence in my GCSE class to offer personal interpretations?”.
You will then reflect on your chosen aspect of your teaching by observing outcomes, asking questions of your students, and noting changes. Further details on how to present these findings will be given during the course.
