New York 2011

Our residency at the Park Avenue Armory for the 2011 Lincoln Center Festival was a landmark event in RSC history.

Five Shakespeare productions were performed by a single company of actors in a specially constructed thrust-stage auditorium.

For the first time theatregoers in the US were able to experience our theatre just as they would have seen it in our home in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Education programme
This was a key part of our residency. It aimed to give children aged eight years and upwards their first taste of Shakespeare by showing them adapted versions of the plays in performance, and developing teachers' skills in getting children and young people exploring the plays actively.

  • The Making of the Stage

Designed and built in our workshops in Stratford-upon-Avon, the auditorium was transported across the Atlantic and constructed in 15 days. Watch it happen.
