Overview

Our CPD for teachers aims to bring Shakespeare to life in the classroom by exploring practices and techniques direct from our rehearsal rooms.

Research into using rehearsal room approaches has shown positive effects on how young people engage with Shakespeare, improvements in vocabulary and problem solving and crucially an increase in young people's enjoyment of learning. Find out more about research into our work - Time To Act.

INSET DAYS

An INSET day with the RSC offers evidence-informed professional development on using RSC approaches to transform your students’ experiences of studying Shakespeare. Book a full or a half day teacher professional development workshop to explore these techniques and our new learning platform, the Shakespeare Curriculum.

We can facilitate an INSET day in any school in the UK or in one of our creative learning spaces in Stratford-upon-Avon.

SECONDARY ENGLISH TEACHER, 2026

I can honestly say that the RSC’s training sessions are absolutely amazing and have had a genuine, huge impact on my teaching career. They’ve completely changed my perspective on making time for these rehearsal-based activities and built my confidence in the process. I really enjoyed it all and now seeing my students get so excited and confident with Shakespeare has been the highlight of my year. You’ve given me the tools to move away from just reading a play, to creating a real, active ensemble. I’m so grateful for the inspiration!

Our Teaching Practice

Our inclusive approaches to teaching and learning can unlock the potential of every learner. Our playful and engaging ways of working help children and young people analyse, interrogate and make meaning from texts.

We scaffold learning by gradually increasing the complexity of the language being explored, starting with a word or a line and building to whole speeches and scenes.

Our approaches amplify the views and opinions of children and young people and can ignite a love of language and literature in learners of all backgrounds and abilities.

These strategies champion learning through doing and teachers will find this pedagogy embedded across our work, our professional development courses and the Shakespeare Curriculum.
