60 years of memories

Last year we celebrated 60 years since the granting of our royal charter, and as we continue to celebrate this milestone, we want to hear from you. You, along with the millions of others who have enjoyed performances in Stratford-upon-Avon, London, across the country and around the world, are at the heart of our Royal Shakespeare Community. 

Our audiences are part of our history, and we want to hear your voice and your experiences. From your first time visit to your favourite Shakespeare or family production, how the RSC has inspired you, or even bumping into your favourite actor, we would love to hear your most cherished memory of the RSC.

In almost 30 years there have been so many memorable performances - Caroline Nuttall, Member

We moved to just outside Stratford almost 30 years ago, and after settling in our thoughts turned to the RSC. Our previous experience of Shakespeare had been at school and not especially interesting. The first performance we saw at the RSC was King Lear with Robert Stephens, a rather heavy re-introduction to Shakespeare! The second was marginally lighter, Derek Jacobi in Macbeth and played without an interval! Both superb performances but perhaps we should have started with something lighter! Since then we have been regulars, enjoying both Shakespeare and the productions at the Swan. In almost 30 years there have been so many memorable performances but special mention must go to:

1.seeing David Tenant as Touchstone in As You Like It and remarking at the time what a special actor he was. We also saw him that year in The Rivals, and have seen all his subsequent RSC appearances

2.the production of The Merchant of Venice set in Las Vegas

3.the 2002 season of Jacobean plays staged at the Swan Theatre

4.Alex Jennings in Midsummer Night's Dream

5.Des Barritt as Malvolio
