60 years of memories

Last year we celebrated 60 years since the granting of our royal charter, and as we continue to celebrate this milestone, we want to hear from you. You, along with the millions of others who have enjoyed performances in Stratford-upon-Avon, London, across the country and around the world, are at the heart of our Royal Shakespeare Community. 

Our audiences are part of our history, and we want to hear your voice and your experiences. From your first time visit to your favourite Shakespeare or family production, how the RSC has inspired you, or even bumping into your favourite actor, we would love to hear your most cherished memory of the RSC.

I got to see Gareth Thomas in all his glory as Orsino in Twelfth Night - Subscriber

My first visit to the RSC, though not my first visit to Stratford upon Avon in 1979. Aged 15, a huge fan of Blake's 7 and an even bigger fan of Shakespeare, I got to see Gareth Thomas in all his glory as Orsino in Twelfth Night with a stellar cast that also included Cheri Lunghi (Viola), Kate Nicholls (Olivia), John McEnery (Sir Andrew), John Woodvine (Malvolio) & Geoffrey Hutchings (Feste). I still have the photo I bought from the shop in Sheep Street (Joe Cocks Studio) where you could buy copies of photos from the production. I miss that shop to this day. I also managed to get a replacement programme last year after losing my original many years ago. I loved it because I always remember the sketches of the costume concepts fondly. Back in 1979 I wanted to work in stage design. I ended up in publishing and graphic design instead, but I've never lost my love for Shakespeare. I'm currently developing a range of Shakespeare books for children.
