Richard II, with David Tennant in the title role, was the first play directed by Gregory Doran in his new position as Artistic Director of the RSC in October 2013 in Stratford-upon-Avon and London.

Richard II was the first play that the Company broadcast Live from Stratford-upon-Avon to cinemas worldwide on 13 November 2013. The production returns to the Barbican in London in January 2016 as part of the 'King and Country' history cycle of plays directed by Gregory Doran.
