60 years of memories

Last year we celebrated 60 years since the granting of our royal charter, and as we continue to celebrate this milestone, we want to hear from you. You, along with the millions of others who have enjoyed performances in Stratford-upon-Avon, London, across the country and around the world, are at the heart of our Royal Shakespeare Community. 

Our audiences are part of our history, and we want to hear your voice and your experiences. From your first time visit to your favourite Shakespeare or family production, how the RSC has inspired you, or even bumping into your favourite actor, we would love to hear your most cherished memory of the RSC.

We took our three children to the full one-day production of Nicholas Nickleby on New Year's Eve - Pam Thomas, RSC Member

Was it the winter of 1986/7 that you presented 'Nicholas Nickleby' at the RSC in Stratford? We took our three children to the full one-day production on New Year's Eve. We worried that our youngest (aged 12) wouldn't stay the course, but he sat immobile the entire time, totally engaged, as we all were, by the action, the sets, the dialogue, the fun, the tragedy, and the sheer scale of the production. It was one of the most memorable theatrical evenings in our lives, and when it ended just before midnight the entire cast joined hands, as we did, and sang Auld Lang Syne which was a fitting end to the journey we'd been on together for so many hours. We left the theatre to the sound of church bells ringing in the new year under a stiff frost and a starry sky. Our children are now middle-aged, but they still remember that outing with warmth and pleasure, and show their own children the DVD of the production.
