60 years of memories

Last year we celebrated 60 years since the granting of our royal charter, and as we continue to celebrate this milestone, we want to hear from you. You, along with the millions of others who have enjoyed performances in Stratford-upon-Avon, London, across the country and around the world, are at the heart of our Royal Shakespeare Community. 

Our audiences are part of our history, and we want to hear your voice and your experiences. From your first time visit to your favourite Shakespeare or family production, how the RSC has inspired you, or even bumping into your favourite actor, we would love to hear your most cherished memory of the RSC.

I fell in love with the RSC at that moment - Phil Cardew, Silver Patron

It is difficult to pick out one moment from so many wonderful visits to Stratford and various London Theatres to see RSC productions. Many have been captured elsewhere (Nicholas Nickleby, especially, will always have a special place in my heart, as does an early As You Like it with the stellar talents of Juliet Stevenson, Fiona Shaw and Alan Rickman as "youngster" in the cast) so I will go back to my very first production, The Merchant of Venice, in the early 80s. I was visiting Stratford on a Canal Boat and was already enthralled by the Theatre. I didn't really imagine that you could just "turn up" and get a seat, but I went in one afternoon and found tickets available for the evening performance.

It was magical - a combination of outstanding ensemble performances, wonderful settings, a magical summer's evening and good chilled white wine on the terrace. I fell in love with the RSC at that moment, a love that has sat alongside my marriage, now reaching 36 years...
