We offer captioned, and audio described and semi integrated BSL signed performances, as well as Touch Tours to enhance your experience at the theatre. We offer these for all of the venues of the Romeo and Juliet tour.

BSL interpreted performances

A British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter is directed as part of the action onstage. You will see the interpreter interacting with the actors onstage and they will be in costume. When booking for a signed performance, tell the box office so that you can have a seat where you can see the signer clearly.

Romeo and Juliet BSL Synopsis

The video below explains the sign names and the plot of Romeo and Juliet in British Sign Language, produced for BSL users coming to see the play.

Captioned performances

Captioning converts the spoken word into text, which is displayed on an LED screen to the side of the stage. This enables you to read the dialogue as the actors speak the words. Please contact the performance venue If you are unsure about which seats to book.

Audio Described performances

These performances include a live commentary giving details of all the visual aspects of a production. The commentary is interspersed with the actors' dialogue. Before the play begins you can hear an introduction to the production which gives details of the set, costumes and characters. A Touch Tour offers the opportunity to get close to the set, costumes and props used in the play. Please contact the venue to confirm touch tour times.

You can also get the introductory notes on CD sent to your home to listen to before you come to the theatre. Please ask for this service when you book your tickets or email access@rsc.org.uk

The audio introduction for the play is available below to listen to and download in mp3 format. You can also download the Romeo and Juliet notes as a text document.
