RSC APPOINTS NEW HEAD PASTRY CHEF
The Royal Shakespeare Company has appointed new Head Pastry Chef Bogdan Alexe, who is already spearheading a brand-new range of loaf cakes at the Stratford-upon-Avon based theatre.
Bogdan is heading-up the Company’s Riverside Cafe, afternoon tea and Rooftop Restaurant pudding offerings. He will also lead the RSC’s brand new cafe at The Other Place when it opens in March.
New loaf cakes at the Riverside Cafe include an orange marmalade and elderflower infused loaf; a dark, rich chocolate pistachio offering; a sticky dark ginger loaf cake; classic lemon drizzle and an Earl Grey tea infused fruit loaf cake completes the line-up.
Bogdan has also introduced a range of double chocolate chunky cookies, fruit flap jacks with jumbo oats, honey, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, as well as white chocolate brownies.
He said: “I am delighted to be heading-up the Royal Shakespeare Company’s pastry offerings; it is such an innovative place to be which completely reflects my style of baking. Like the theatre, cooking is about giving people an experience and I’m excited to already be offering visitors a brand new range of cake loafs, cookies and brownies.”
Bogdan, who champions homemade pastry and cakes which are baked on the day on site, plans to continue to create modern British offerings, as well as introduce recipes from his home country, Romania. Further details to follow.
Victoria Fleming, RSC Head of Catering said: “Bogdan has been baking since he was 15 years old and has such passion and enthusiasm for food and for creating recipes. He not only brings 25 years of experience to the table - but also a genuine love of creativity in the kitchen which fits in perfectly with our work as a theatre. We are delighted that Bogdan has joined us to lead our pastry offer and to continue its ongoing success.”

The Royal Shakespeare Company creates theatre at its best, made in Stratford-upon-Avon and shared around the world.
Everyone at the RSC - from actors to armourers, musicians to technicians - plays a part in creating the world you see on stage. All our productions begin life at our Stratford workshops and theatres and we bring them to the widest possible audience through our touring, residencies, live broadcasts and online activity. So wherever you experience the RSC, you experience work made in Shakespeare’s home town.
We encourage everyone to enjoy a lifelong relationship with Shakespeare and live theatre. We produce an inspirational artistic programme each year, setting Shakespeare in context, alongside the work of his contemporaries and today’s writers. We have trained generations of the very best theatre makers and we continue to nurture the talent of the future. We reach 450,000 children and young people annually through our education work across the UK, transforming their experiences in the classroom, in performance and online.
