Dynamic ten-piece folk ensemble Company of Players performs at the RSC’s Studio Theatre at The Other Place on Saturday 8 April, promising an evening of dramatic, versatile arrangements based around an exploration of Shakespeare's contemporary relevance.

Company of Players was formed in 2016, the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, by Said The Maiden’s Jess Distill, who set out to create a folk ‘supergroup’.  With Jess’s passion for all things Shakespeare, it was obvious that was the theme they were going to concentrate on.

Over the course of a week in April 2016, they wrote, rehearsed and recorded their first album of brand new music, based on Shakespeare's life and work, which they will perform live at the RSC in two 45 minute sets.

Company of Players features some of Jess’ peers, and the very best emerging musicians on the UK folk and acoustic music scene. Jess is joined by Minnie Birch, Chris Cleverley, Lukas Drinkwater, Hannah Elizabeth, Sam Kelly, Daria Kulesh, Kim Lowings, Kelly Oliver and Kathy Pilkinton.
