Welcome to our Live Lesson page for The Tempest

Alex Kingston as Prospero in the 2023 production

The Tempest Live Lesson

Thank you for watching. The Live Lesson was available on Tuesday 14 March 2023.

About the production

The lesson will feature cast and creatives from our 2023 production including Director Elizabeth Freestone and actors Alex Kingston (Prospero), Heledd Gwynn (Ariel) and Tommy Sim’aan (Caliban).

This production asks us to examine the delicate balance in our personal relationships as well as with the fragile ecosystems around us. What damage do we do to each other – and to the natural world? In the end, young love brings hope for a better life: perhaps healing ourselves and mending the planet are one and the same thing.

The design of this production was heavily influenced by sustainability. Elements of the set and the costumes were recycled from previous shows both at the RSC and from other theatres. The props were found in litter picks and beachcombing or where specific items were required, bought secondhand.
