Join us in Stratford-upon-Avon and London for the annual Shakespeare's Birthday Weekend celebrations - a unique and specially curated weekend of activities to celebrate Shakespeare. Enjoy a weekend of performances, time spent with artists and creatives and special events.
Thursday 18 April
Begin your weekend with us in London. Dinner will be hosted in Sloane Square with fellow supporters and a member of the RSC New Work team. The RSC New Work Team visited the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2023 to scope out new writers where they saw the original version of our selected play for the evening.
Critically acclaimed Gunter is appearing at the Royal Court theatre, a compelling history of murder and witchcraft set in a small Oxfordshire village in 1604. Co-created by Lydia Higman, Rachel Lemon and RSC writer on attachment Julia Grogan, it transfers to London following an award-winning run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Writer and Performance Julia Grogan will join us for a nightcap following the performance.
Friday 19 April
Travel by luxury minibus to Stratford-upon-Avon and check into The Arden, a 4-star boutique hotel located just steps away from the RSC theatres.
On arrival, enjoy afternoon tea in the RSC's Rooftop Restaurant, followed by expert-led insights into Love's Labour's Lost, with Director Emily Burns, and The Buddha of Suburbia, with Producer Ben Tyreman and Associate Director Laura Keefe.
In the evening, as a close friend of the Company and to thank you for your support, you are invited to the highlight of the RSC year, the Artistic Directors' Celebration. Co-Artistic Directors Tamara Harvey and Daniel Evans will host their inaugural celebration, reflecting on the organisation they have inherited and the Company they want to create under their guardianship. You will be joined by RSC leadership and Board, creatives and Associate Artists for drinks, dinner and entertainment.
Saturday 20 April
Start the Birthday Celebrations by raising a glass to Shakespeare at the RSC Friends' annual toast before joining RSC leadership in the community parade to lay flowers of remembrance on Shakespeare's grave at Holy Trinity Church.
Enjoy a light lunch at The Arden Hotel before a matinee of Love's Labour's Lost in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Dinner will be served in the RSC Rooftop Restaurant between performances, where you will be joined by fellow supporters, actors and directors. The day is rounded off with a Preview performance of The Buddha of Suburbia in the Swan Theatre.
Sunday 21 April
Join us for a service of remembrance at Holy Trinity Church, where Shakespeare was baptised and buried. RSC actors will perform as part of a church service which is open to all visitors to the town.
You will then have the option to be transported back to London at midday.
