Our performance archive dates back to 1879. We own the copyright of a large number of our current and past production photos, as well as other related images.

Our images and how you can use them

We welcome the use of our photos on many platforms, but you need to ask for permission before you use our images.

In some circumstances use of our images may not be charged, but in all cases our digital image order form should be completed so we can grant permission. If you have any questions regarding RSC images or image licensing, please email

Please note: our images are subject to legal restrictions such as intellectual property rights, copyright law and, where applicable, model release. Where such restrictions apply, we will inform you on application.


Our archives

Our archives are held at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, Stratford-upon-Avon, and can be visited in person for research.
