Our work

Some facts that you might not have known about us:

• As well as Shakespeare, we perform the work of his contemporaries, other classics and new work.
• We currently have over 30 writers under commission
• We are a registered charity, number 212481
• We are the only theatre company with our own on-site armoury, producing breastplates, gauntlets, belts and weaponry
• Our lighting team invented and holds the international patent for RSC Lightlock, which solves the problem of sway generated by the movement of automated moving lights
• We plan our work a long time in advance with some projects under discussion for two to three years. Matilda The Musical began life seven years before it reached the stage
• Costumes from previous productions from our Costume Store have been hired out and seen in film and TV, including Shakespeare in Love, Braveheart, Merlin, Dr Who and Don't Tell The Bride
• Our education work is central to what we do - each year we work with around 25,000 young people and 2,000 teachers through education partnerships in the UK and overseas
