The nation’s favourite Shakespeare play is performed as never before.

A co-production between the Royal Shakespeare Company and amateur companies across the UK.

In 2016, the RSC and amateur companies around the UK take you on a very special Midsummer adventure with a unique production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

On a Midsummer’s night, four young lovers find themselves wrapped in the dream-like arms of an enchanted forest where sprites lurk and fairies rule. While a feuding Fairy King and Queen are at war, their paths are crossed by Bottom, Quince and their friends presenting a play within a play. Chief mischief-maker Puck is on-hand to ensure that the course of true love is anything but smooth, and games of fantasy, love and dreams ensue in Shakespeare’s most beguiling comedy.

The nation’s favourite Shakespeare play is performed as never before; Deputy Artistic Director Erica Whyman (Oh What a Lovely War 2010, Our Friends in the North 2007) directs 18 professional actors with local amateur groups around the UK as Shakespeare’s Mechanicals. Returning to the RSC is Ayesha Dharker (Othello 2015, Arabian Nights 2009) in the role of Fairy Queen Titania and Chu Omambala (Hecuba 2015) as Oberon, King of the Fairies. Also joining the Company is Laura Riseborough as Helena, Mercy Ojelade as Hermia, Jack Holden as Lysander and Chris Nayak as Demetrius.

Join us for an unforgettable Midsummer adventure…

On Midsummer's Day we announced the 14 amateur companies from around the UK who will be joining us on our journey. Meet the Bottoms in our brand new trailer and visit the Dream 2016 website to get to know each company.

This is an arrangement developed between the RSC and Equity.
