60 years of memories

Last year we celebrated 60 years since the granting of our royal charter, and as we continue to celebrate this milestone, we want to hear from you. You, along with the millions of others who have enjoyed performances in Stratford-upon-Avon, London, across the country and around the world, are at the heart of our Royal Shakespeare Community. 

Our audiences are part of our history, and we want to hear your voice and your experiences. From your first time visit to your favourite Shakespeare or family production, how the RSC has inspired you, or even bumping into your favourite actor, we would love to hear your most cherished memory of the RSC.

I came to the theate in my wedding dress - Alison Chisholm, Subscriber

I came to the RST in my wedding dress. I married in July 1971 in a plain full length white dress and lacy coat and wore the dress (without coat) to the Theatre in the August. 

My husband recalls buying a gold tie embellished with the titles at the RSC shop, wearing it to the Theatre – and discovering it was the staff uniform. He spent a lot of time directing people to the bar or the loo. 

One other memory – A few years ago I met Janet Suzman at a poetry event in Canada House, London. It gave me the opportunity to say how much I’d enjoyed her performance in Stratford as Cleopatra.  Her response: Goodness, you must be older than you look! What a lovely lady- on every count.

Shakespeare memories

As we celebrate 60 years of incredible theatre we would love to hear your most cherished memories of the RSC, from your first visit to your favourite production, how the RSC inspired your or even bumping into your favourite actor.
