Our new supporter, Dave Maclean, has been shortlisted for a brand new prize celebrating first-time arts philanthropists.
We nominated Dave following his first donation to us this year. He is one of seven philanthropists shortlisted for the first Achates Philanthropy Prize, which celebrates a new generation of cultural philanthropists in the UK. Organisations across all art forms were invited to nominate an outstanding individual who has donated towards their organisation for the first time within the last 12 months.
Dave chose to support the Company because it has been important to his family for generations. He explained: “We love the RSC's relentless innovation in fresh productions. At the same time we admire and want to support the commitment to education to build pathways and on-ramps to everyone to share what we ourselves are privileged to enjoy. The RSC show us that quality and accessibility need not be in opposition to each other.”
In addition to Dave’s support of the RSC, six arts organisations from across the UK were also shortlisted for the inaugural Achates Philanthropy Prize: Northern Ballet, The Fruitmarket Gallery, The Yard Theatre, Theatre 503, Theatre Royal Stratford East and Turner Contemporary.
The winner will be announced on Monday 7 November.
