Through interviews with the key figures involved in the Transformation Project including the architects, project team, RSC staff and actors, the book reveals how the Company’s plans developed, from the controversial proposal to demolish the building through to the reopening in November 2010 of the transformed RST theatre space.
It describes how the original plans foundered, how new ideas and solutions developed, how the Courtyard Theatre was conceived and built in record time as a temporary home for the Company and how the Swan Theatre was improved and updated.
The 144-page book has been written for the RSC by David Ward. David is a freelance journalist who worked for The Guardian for many years and who has followed the Transformation Project from the start.
The soft cover book is printed on high-quality paper with a sturdy, attractively foil-blocked cover. Printed in colour throughout, it is fully illustrated with photographs and architectural plans. The book is a must for those wanting to know the full story of the Transformation project.
