Former RSC Artistic Director Michael Boyd directed the first new production in the transformed Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

Jonathan Slinger played Macbeth following his acclaimed performances as Richard II and Richard III in the award-winning 2006 – 2008 Histories Cycle.

In what the Guardian called a 'wildly original production', the three witches were replaced by three children, who began the production flown onto the stage as hanging corpses.

Due to the indisposition of Jonathan Slinger, until the end of the season the part of Macbeth was played by Aidan Kelly, Macduff was played by Daniel Percival, Menteth was played by Daniel Rose, Angus was played by David McGranaghan and Doctor at the Court of Edward the Confessor was played by Geoffrey Newland.
