Our programme of events celebrating costume making in Stratford-upon-Avon has been shortlisted for a Museums + Heritage Award.

THREADS has been nominated in the Community Engagement Programme of the Year category as part of the awards, which celebrate the best in the world of museums, galleries, cultural and heritage visitor attractions.

The programme of events over last summer and autumn included workshops, demonstrations and pop up performances, culminating in Costume Day, where we celebrated the history and craft of costume making in Shakespeare’s hometown. You can still watch one of our pop up performances, Georgie and the Knight, on our YouTube channel.

Another highlight was Woven, a series of four workshops led by West Midlands artist Nilupa Yasmin who specialises in paper weaves based on personal and family history. Nilupa and previous RSC costume designer Bretta Gerecke transformed the weaves into a showstopping costume that was displayed at Costume Day.

The winners will be announced at a live ceremony in London on Wednesday 11 May, hosted by Iszi Lawrence.
