Our acclaimed touring production of Matilda The Musical has reached its last stop.
The final performance takes place on Saturday 17 August at Norwich Theatre Royal, marking the end of an 18 month run, with 10 different Matildas performing 541 shows in venues across the UK and Ireland, including:
Based on the Roald Dahl novel about a young girl with telekinetic powers, the musical has received 99 awards and been seen by over 9 million people worldwide.
The UK tour has seen 10 young actors taking the role of Matilda in 541 performances.
Matilda The Musical in schools
The education programme Change My Story has also reached the end of its first phase. Running alongside the UK tour, it made possible over 100 performances of an edited version of the musical, performed by 2,129 students from 42 Matilda Champion Schools.
Teachers from the schools received two days of training in directing and staging the show, followed by three RSC school visits to rehearsals as the work developed. In the next phase of the project, the teachers will be sharing their new skills with other local schools.
In addition, almost 4,000 pupils took part in Matilda The Musical workshops, another 105 in a backstage experience, and 41 in an on-stage voice and acting workshop with the production's Head of Voice and Associate Director.
The story continues...
But this isn't the end of Matilda The Musical. The West End production continues at the Cambridge Theatre, with the show now booking into 2020. The international tour of the musical also continues this year and next, starting with more than 130 performances across China and Hong Kong over the next six months.
