From 31 July, the streaming service will show The Taming of the Shrew, As You Like it and Measure for Measure from our 2019/20 season.
Marquee TV – the global streaming platform for dance, opera and theatre on demand – will be celebrating our work this weekend by showcasing three of our productions from last year, the first time they have been made available for home viewing.
The shows are all available to view any time from Friday (31 July), with Marquee TV also hosting a special watchalong for each production over the course of the weekend:
Friday 7.30pm: The Taming of the Shrew - Justin Audibert's adaptation puts the women in charge as Shakespeare’s energetic comedy of gender and materialism is turned on its head.
Saturday 7.30pm: As You Like It - Escape into the Forest of Arden with Kimberley Sykes' production, featuring Lucy Phelps as Rosalind.
Sunday 7.30pm: Measure for Measure - Gregory Doran moves the play to early 1900s' Vienna in this resonant production.
The Shakespeare festival weekend will provide a unique opportunity for audiences to see these shows at a time when our theatres, along with theatres worldwide, are still dark.
Our Artistic Director, Gregory Doran, said: “It’s almost impossible to imagine: no Shakespeare productions on our stages this summer. Shakespeare’s plays were performed here throughout the Second World War, meaning they have been on our stages for the last 140 years in a nearly unbroken line. Whilst we look forward to a time when we can safely re-open our buildings to the public, we are delighted that Marquee TV can bring these fantastic productions to a global audience this summer while theatres everywhere remain closed to the public.”
New subscribers can sign up for a 14-day free trial with the service. Join in the watchalongs on their social media channels (@MarqueeArtsTV) with the hashtag #ShakespeareFest.
