Gregory Doran gives the Dimbleby lecture

Our Artistic Director delivered the prestigious 2016 Richard Dimbleby Lecture, broadcast on BBC One on Wednesday 16 March.

Gregory Doran spoke to an invited audience at Warwick Business School’s London base at the Shard. The lecture, titled 'Is Shakespeare Chinese', reflects on the impact and resonance Shakespeare still has in today's world. It was the 40th lecture held in honour of the veteran broadcaster, who died in 1965. Previous speakers have included Baroness Martha Lane-Fox, Christine Lagarde, Bill Gates, Sir Terry Pratchett, and our President, HRH Prince of Wales.

You can watch the lecture on iPlayer or download the full text below.
