The Swirl, our new performance space, is open for business on Bancroft Terrace in front of our theatre.

Inside Out, a new area for free events and activities on the Bancroft Terrace, is now open to visitors, with The Swirl, our outdoor pop-up theatre, at the centre of the action.

On Saturdays, The Swirl will host puppet shows based on classic fairytales like Three Little Pigs and Goldilocks. A wordless show called Plain Bob will also feature, where audiences can interact with Bob as he performs simple tasks in his umbrella world.

Sundays will showcase Give it a Swirl, newly-commissioned works inspired by our summer season of Royal Shakespeare Theatre shows, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and The Merry Wives of Windsor. These 30-minute performances are suitable for all ages and include actors from the Company.

These events are all completely free, but you will need to pick up a ticket from the Box Office to guarantee a spot. See our special Inside Out page for more details.

There are other interactive activities to enjoy as part of Inside Out, as we bring the inside of the theatre out onto the terrace:

  • Play Montagues v Capulets table football
  • Create your own sound effects
  • Brew the Witches' spell from Macbeth
  • Practise selling tickets at our mock Box Office

These activities will be available every day throughout the holidays and are free to use.

The Rocket food truck has also taken up its new home next to Inside Out, selling ice creams and a selection of hot and cold drinks.
