The Tempest tells the story of the exiled Duke Prospero, who uses magic to create a home in the wilderness. When a crew is shipwrecked on his island, his daughter Miranda falls in love with one of the crew and rebels against her father. In this story of how love can conquer fear, Prospero must decide between forgiving those who betrayed him, or lose his daughter forever.

Using Shakespeare's original language, the show is designed to entertain and educate young audiences about the importance of the playwright and the world of the play. The actors will react differently to each new audience to create "a unique rough magic version of Shakespeare's most funny, touching and fantastical tale," says director Aileen Gonsalves.

Casting for First Encounters with Shakespeare: The Tempest includes Darren Raymond as Prospero, Elly Condron as Miranda, and Sarah Kameela Impey as Ariel.
