The Tempest and Queen Anne open in the capital.

This Friday, 30 June, we open two shows in London. The first preview of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, in collaboration with Intel and in association with The Imaginarium Studios, opens at the Barbican. On the same day, previews start for Helen Edmundson’s acclaimed play Queen Anne at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.

Natalie Abrahami’s Queen Anne first opened in the Swan theatre in 2015/16. Emma Cunniffe reprises her performance in the title role, alongside Romola Garai as Sarah Churchill. It plays until 30 September in a presentation by TRH Productions and Zeilinger Productions.

Romola Garai and Emma Cunniffe in Queen Anne

The Tempest was first seen in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre at the culmination of our bumper 2016 year marking of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. Gregory Doran directs Simon Russell Beale as he reprises the role of Prospero alongside Mark Quartley as Ariel, whose performance is digitally captured as a shape-changing avatar on the stage. This ground-breaking production runs until 18 August.

In the autumn, we will return to the Barbican when our Rome Season heads to London from Stratford-upon-Avon. Coriolanus, Julius Caesar, Antony & Cleopatra and Titus Andronicus will play from November to January 2018.
