Captioning is similar to television subtitles and gives people who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing access to live performance.

The actors' words appear on an LED caption unit placed next to the stage or in the set, at the same time as they are spoken or sung.

Signed

British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted performances & tours are designed to provide access to theatre for people who use BSL.

Audio Described

Audio description is a live commentary giving details of all the visual aspects of a production.

The commentary is interspersed with the actors' dialogue and is delivered via radio headsets, which are loaned free of charge.

Open Understudy Rehearsal

A limited number of tickets are available to our open understudy rehearsals which give a glimpse into the technical and on-stage processes around this essential part of our work, ensuring we have a 'performance ready' full understudy company.

Performed with limited staging conditions and costumes, these fascinating rehearsals are only available for sale two weeks prior to each event.

Relaxed Performance

These performances are aimed at everyone but have been designed with the needs of people with an autistic spectrum condition, sensory and communication disorders, a learning disability or for anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed environment.

Performances are adapted with a more relaxed attitude to noise and movement in the auditorium and adapted light and sound in order to reduce anxiety and ensure a safe, enjoyable theatre visit.

Chilled Performance

A 'chilled' performance takes a more casual approach to noise and movement in the auditorium, but the performance itself is unchanged.

This performance is ideal for people who feel more at ease knowing they can go in and out of the auditorium during the show including people with dementia. This performance is for everybody and babes in arms are welcome.

Post Show Talk

An informal way of finding out more about the production, the actor's process and what it's like to work for the RSC. Post Show Talks take place onstage in the theatre auditorium after the performance, and are free with your show ticket.

First Time Fridays

Never been to the Royal Shakespeare Company to see a show before? Then why not try FIRST TIME FRIDAYS. You can get tickets to see any of our shows in Stratford-Upon-Avon on a Friday for only £10.*

You can book a maximum of two tickets at £10 each, so you can bring a friend and enjoy your first visit together.

Terms and Conditions

*The tickets will be in pre-allocated seats with 10 tickets held in the Swan Theatre and 20 seats in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre every Friday. Tickets are available for first time visitors to the RSC. Maximum of one pair per person. To qualify, you must not have previously purchased a ticket for the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, the Swan Theatre, The Other Place or the RSC residency at the Barbican, London.

Socially Distanced Performance

A reduced capacity auditorium supporting our more vulnerable audiences. You will be seated with an empty row in front and behind you and with one empty seat between parties. The circle will operate at a reduced capacity. Audiences in the circle will be seated with an empty row in front and behind and with one empty seat between parties. Audiences in the circle will be asked to wear a mask throughout their visit unless exempt. Adjoining bars and toilets will be socially-distanced and reserved exclusively for those who have requested socially-distanced seating.
