A touring exhibition exploring art and the self since the 1990s, in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre's PACCAR Room until 6 January 2019.
In My Shoes explores the ways in which artists based in the UK have represented themselves in their work since the 1990s.
Self-portraiture has provided a source of inspiration to artists across time, and in recent years many artists have challenged and expanded the genre by incorporating action, performance and narrative.
Encompassing a range of media including film, photography and sculpture, In My Shoes features works by significant artists including Tracey Emin, Michael Landy, Sarah Lucas, Hayley Newman, Grayson Perry and Gavin Turk.
Opening times vary, please check before you visit.
In My Shoes: Art & the Self since the 1990s
An Arts Council Collection Touring Exhibition
6 October 2018 – 6 January 2019
PACCAR Room, Level 2
Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon
The exhibition reflects the ever-increasing interest in self-expression, an interest we can now see beyond the art world in the universal 'selfie’ phenomenon. It is also a chance to reflect on the lasting impact of so-called ‘Young British Art’.
In My Shoes presents a wide range of contemporary approaches to self-expression across different art forms, presenting major works from the Arts Council Collection alongside loans from other UK collections.
The exhibition opens at 10am every day. Closing times vary.
- 12 October – 17 November, and 4 December – 6 January, closes at 6pm Monday to Saturday and 5pm Sunday.
- All other dates - closes after the Royal Shakespeare Theatre evening interval (9pm approx.) and 5pm Sunday.
