How the application process works

Work experience with the RSC

Is Taste of Theatre for you?

This is an opportunity to discover more about backstage theatre careers.

If you are more interested in acting, it is unlikely that this work experience is what you are looking for. Our Events department regularly offer events that might be of interest to you.

Who are we looking for?

The essential criteria for Taste of Theatre are:

  • In year 10 or 11 at school
  • Interested in a backstage career in theatre
  • Can demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment
  • Enjoys working as part of a team
  • Prepared to work hard and complete Bronze Arts Award (includes some additonal work in your own time - see below)
  • Keen to learn
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the Taste of Theatre programme

The Bronze Arts Award
Participants of Taste of Theatre will work towards their Bronze Arts Award - a nationally recognised qualification to take away with them. This will be a compulsory part of the week with us. Completion of the Arts Award will involve working on a project, and some of the work will need to be completed in your own time, after the work experience week has finished. Find out more about Arts Award at

How do I apply?

Taste of Theatre week dates for 2014 are between: Monday 30 June - Friday 4 July 2014

To complete and application, scroll through our current vacancies and click on Taste of Theatre work experience. You will need to complete an online application form.

Key dates and information

  • Length of placement: one week
  • Location: Stratford-upon-Avon
  • Closing date for applications: Monday 27 January 2014
  • Interview dates: Friday 14 and Saturday 15 March 2014

We will let you know when your application has been received, but don't worry if you don't hear from us for a while after that. We won't shortlist candidates until after the closing date of 27 January 2014, so don't expect to hear from us before the end of February 2013.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an informal interview on the 14 and 15 March 2014 in Stratford-upon-Avon before the final 24 students are selected.

Things you need to know

The online application form should be completed by the student applying for Taste of Theatre, not by a parent or guardian or anybody else on behalf of the student. If there is any reason why this is not possible, please get in touch with us.

You should apply using your own personal email address, not a parent or guardian's email address - we expect all correspondence throughout the application process to be with the student directly. As a work experience opportunity, we work hard to ensure the process replicates a real job opportunity as closely as possible.

We are unable to contribute towards the travel and accommodation costs of young people attending interviews or Taste of Theatre week itself.
