The Optimist Cocktail

Is your glass half full or half empty? We've created the Optimist Cocktail, inspired by our new play, Candide.

The cocktail is being served in our Rooftop Restaurant and Bar in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon.

It was created by Bar Manager Alice Cook, who also created the Bloody Tamora cocktail to complement the Shakespeare's violent Titus Andronicus.

Her latest creation is ready for the opening of Writer in Residence Mark Ravenhill's new play, and inspired by Voltaire's iconic story Candide, which repeats the mantra 'Everything for the best in the best of all possible worlds.'

Made from citrus vodka, cranberry juice, grenadine and Blue Curacao, the Optimist Cocktail, is served in a chemistry lab beaker. When you order it, you will be asked whether you think your glass is half empty or half full.

Candide, a new play by Mark Ravenhill, inspired by Voltaire opens at the Swan Theatre on 29 August 2013.
