The Bear Pit

The Bear Pit founders

From the Bear Pit's Chairman

It is a great pleasure to be invited back by the RSC for the second year to work on the Open House event, taking place this year in the glorious surroundings of the Swan Theatre. We were also encouraged to learn that many of the RSC's team who were involved last year will be with us again this time.

This past year has been a very exciting time for The Bear Pit and our performing art societies. In April we were delighted to become an Open Stages partner organisation and to be invited with our members to take part in the RSC pilot workshops. Nine of our member societies went on to be accepted for the Open Stages project. We look forward to working with them and the societies from around the UK when the Open Stages project reaches its final phase in July next year.

It has been exhilarating and challenging to work with the RSC on these projects. We feel that we have gained new insights and skills which we intend to develop and grow in the months and years ahead.

About The Bear Pit

The Bear Pit is a voluntary organisation created to support and promote the many visual and performing arts groups in Stratford upon Avon.

We work to build a greater awareness of the societies, through our website and 'What's On' events calendar which is circulated widely in the area. We also celebrate the talents of Stratford's arts societies by holding an annual Arts Showcase.

Our vision for the future is to create an affordable and, most importantly, a sustainable venue for community arts in the heart of Stratford upon Avon.

To this end we are excited to announce a joint venture with the ideally placed and beautiful United Reform Church in Rother Street, who have been itching to throw their doors open to the wider community of Stratford for many years.

The Bear Pit and Friends will be taking over the entire building for our next Arts Showcase on Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd October this autumn. There will be a wide range of arts and crafts on display, with practical workshops and demonstrations designed to appeal to everyone. Our musical societies will also be involved, playing throughout the day and performing an eclectic mix of music and songs at a concert on Sunday evening.

Other events in the same building are currently in the planning stages, but we soon hope to announce an exciting and varied programme for next year.
