Costume designs for Mrs Wormwood
Director: Matthew Warchus
Designer: Rob Howell
Composer: Tim Minchin
Adaptor: Dennis Kelly
Matilda is a book by Roald Dahl (1916 – 1990) about a little girl who has extraordinary talents but is bullied and underappreciated by the adults in her life. The stage version Matilda The Musical was commissioned by the RSC and was adapted by Dennis Kelly and Tim Minchin. After its premier in Stratford in 2010, it opened in London's West End in October 2011.
These designs highlight the bright and vibrant nature of the set and costumes. Howell used the letters of the alphabet as a backdrop to the main set. Matilda's parents, Mr and Mrs Wormwood, were played by Paul Kaye and Josie Walker.
Critics and audiences have praised the production, calling it 'witty', 'delightful' and 'intelligent'.
