Armour worn by Patrick Stewart
Director: Gregory Doran
Costume Designer: Kandis Cook
This production opened in the Swan Theatre in April 2006. It was part of the RSC's Complete Works Festival. Patrick Stewart played Mark Antony opposite Harriet Walter as Cleopatra.
This red armour is made entirely of leather decorated with gold paint. It gives an impression of the traditional approach to costume taken by Kandis Cook, the designer.
Gregory Doran emphasised the intense passion of Shakespeare's work in this production. It opened not long after Romeo and Juliet and inspired comparisons of the two plays. Both are stories about a love that ends in double suicide.
