The RSC's production of Les Miserables was the premiere of the musical in Britain. The company teamed up with West End producer Cameron MacIntosh who had also worked on the musical Cats.
In December 1985 the original cast recorded an album featuring all the songs from the production. These gold discs were awarded by the British Phonographic Industry when 100,000 copies of the album had been sold.
By 2011, Les Miserables had become the third-longest running show on Broadway, in its 26th year.
