PROMPT BOOK
Bingo, 1976
Playwright: Edward Bond
Director: Howard Davies
Prompt books are used to ensure the smooth running of a stage production. They are generally kept by the Stage Manager. A prompt book includes a full copy of the script on which notes about the staging of the play are made.
Bingo is a play about William Shakespeare and is set at his home in Stratford around 1615. The play is fictional but some of the themes are based on fact. It is mainly a political drama. One critic went so far as to describe the biographical element as 'irrelevant'.
In this production William Shakespeare was played by Patrick Stewart. It opened at The Other Place in Stratford and went on to become part of the RSC's debut season in Newcastle.
