Cloak worn by Terrence Hardiman as Ambitioso
The Revenger's Tragedy, 1966
Playwright: Thought to be Thomas Middleton (1580 – 1627) Director: Trevor Nunn Costume Designer: Christopher Morley
In 1966 The Revenger's Tragedy had not been performed by a professional company for around 300 years. The play was the first major success at the RSC for Trevor Nunn and Christopher Morley. Just over a year after this production, Nunn was made Artistic Director of the RSC when Peter Hall resigned.
This cloak is typical of the look and feel of the costumes and set which were predominantly black and silver. The mottled effect was created by flicking paint onto the material.
