Open Stages at The Dell

An amateur group perform at an outdoor venue

Open Stages Sundays

RSC Open Stages is a new project that aims to embrace, develop and celebrate amateur theatre, re-forging the bond with the world of professional theatre. The project challenged amateur companies from all over the UK to produce their own RSC Open Stages Shakespeare production.
Over 260 amateur companies have taken part, from Glasgow to the Channel Islands, with involving over 7200 people aged 6 to 90. Some companies have been regularly performing Shakespeare since well before the establishment of the RSC and some are trying it for the first time.
The project began in 2011 with the RSC, in partnership with a number of producing theatres, running a national programme of skill-sharing events and showcases across the UK. Since then Open Stages Productions have been performed everywhere from castles to village halls, beaches to ballrooms, supermarkets to forests, with Showcases of the work happening at professional theatres across the UK.

We are therefore delighted to welcome some of the most exciting outdoor Open Stages productions to the Dell every Sunday to perform as part of the World Shakespeare Festival.
