A fresh, shortened, contemporary version; set in the world of corporate and political Denmark – A barren place of ambition, revenge, treachery and moral corruption, this revised version looks at Hamlet from a female perspective.
Hamlet is the protagonist daughter of a business mogul and has been brought up in the world of finance and politics. Devoted to her father, she is devastated by his death and thus seeks full justice and retribution. The relationship with her mother, already a difficult one, is blown wide apart when Gertrude marries her Uncle Claudius within a month. Ophelia admires and worships Hamlet and desperately tries to be noticed by her.
The drama unfolds at break neck speed in this 90 minute version. The depths of despair, treachery and madness to which the human soul can plummet, will be played out to the bitter end by a diverse cast with some unique role playing twists.
About CL Theatre Company
The CL Theatre Company was set up to train a company of actors to produce work of the highest professional standard.
Its members are made up of a combination of graduates from our own Advanced Acting Diploma/Access courses, from the advanced/professional provision in the Drama, Dance, and Speech department's programme, and experienced practitioners that wish to further their experience with us.
The company provides opportunities and a platform for its members to hone their skills and display their talents. A number of directors, teachers and practitioners are invited and engaged to facilitate that end.
Over its brief history the company now has video archive of an acknowledged body of work. It boasts associate members as well as hosting annual auditions in order to find, encourage and support new talent.
