The Courtyard Theatre
The 1000+seat Courtyard Theatre opened in 2006 as a temporary home for the RSC throughout the Transformation project.
It provided a full-scale working prototype for the new RST's thrust stage auditorium. The Courtyard closed at the end of Janary 2011, it will remain closed until 2012 when it will be used for the World Shakespeare Festival as part of the Cultural Olympiad.
The Courtyard Theatre was built on the site of The Other Place (TOP), the RSC's home for new and experimental work. Options to reinstate TOP are currently being developed and will be put out to consultation in spring 2011.
